Rentec Direct Review: Affordable Software With Real Trust Accounting

Rentec Direct is one of the few affordable platforms with genuine trust accounting and owner portals, which makes it interesting for small property management companies. This review is built from Rentec Direct's published pricing and features plus independent reviews, compared against the platforms we cover on this site. We have not run our own portfolio on it.

4.0 /5

The short version

A strong, affordable choice for small property managers who handle other owners' money. The interface is more functional than modern, and pricing scales by unit count.

What Rentec Direct does

Rentec Direct comes in two main editions. Rentec Pro is for landlords and investors, with rent collection, screening, accounting, bank sync and integrations. Rentec PM adds trust accounting, owner accounting and an owner portal for managers who handle money on behalf of others. A Starter plan covers up to 10 properties.

Pricing

As of October 2026, from Rentec Direct's website. Always confirm current pricing before you sign up.

PlanPriceBuilt for
Starter$25/moUp to 10 properties, landlords getting started
Rentec ProFrom $50/moLandlords and investors; scales with units
Rentec PMFrom $50/moProperty managers; adds trust accounting and owner portal

Pro and PM prices rise with unit count; Rentec's site has a calculator for an exact quote and offers a discount for annual billing. Screening is unusually cheap on Pro and PM ($10 to $18 per report). Card payments cost tenants 2.95% on Pro and PM, and one ACH payment per property per month is free. There is a two-week free trial, no setup fee and no long-term contract.

Strengths and weaknesses

What works

  • Real trust accounting and owner portals at a small-company price
  • Very low tenant screening costs
  • No setup fees or long-term contracts
  • Two-week free trial

Where it falls short

  • Interface looks dated next to newer platforms
  • Price climbs with unit count
  • Trust accounting only in the PM edition
  • Less polished mobile experience than RentRedi or DoorLoop

How it compares

Against Buildium: both handle trust accounting and owner reporting. Rentec is typically cheaper for small management companies; Buildium offers a larger ecosystem and more polish.

Against DoorLoop: DoorLoop is easier to learn and more modern; Rentec's PM edition is a budget-friendly route to trust accounting. Read the DoorLoop review →

Small property management companies and landlords who manage for family or partners and need proper trust accounting without enterprise pricing.

The verdict

Rentec Direct does the unglamorous accounting work well and at a fair price. If owner money and trust accounting are part of your business, put it on your shortlist.

Prefer a more modern interface?

DoorLoop includes owner statements and full accounting with the easiest onboarding we have seen.
